Chlorine Systems
Chlorine systems use chlorine to kill bacteria. It keeps the pool water clean and clear, but it can fade bathing suits and color-treated hair. It also makes the eyes sting and irritates the skin and nasal passages. In addition, some people do not like the odor or taste of chlorinated water.

Non-Chlorine Systems
Non-chlorine systems use a chemical called polyhexamethylene. This harmless, non-irritating chemical, which is also used in cleaning solutions for contact lens, keeps the water clean and clear. It does not have an odor and it does not fade hair or clothes. The drawback is that a non-chlorine system is more expensive than a chlorine-based system.
