Before closing your pool for the winter, check the chemical balance and add any needed chemicals. Often a pH stabilizer should be added before closing. If you don’t add a stabilizer, the pH level can change and allow algae to grow. If this occurs, you can expect the need for a big cleanup in the spring. An algaecide may be required to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and algae over the winter. Check with your pool store. It should be able to give you a list of the steps to take and chemicals to use before closing for the specific system you are using.

By properly maintaining your pool, you can expect to have clean, clear, and healthy water all year long. Investing a little time periodically to check the condition and chemical balance of your water will save you much work in the long run.
